As always, facts first. Umineko has 26 episodes, and was made 2009 by… Studio Deen…

Okay so.. I was having doubts if to start watching this or not. There were mainly 2 reasons. 1) I didn’t like Higurashi and 2) it’s made by Studio Deen. For reason 1, I’m going to talk about why later on this post, since the same reasons apply to Umineko. And for 2.. Well, Deen has made for example, surprise surprise, Higurashi, Dragon Crisis and oh.. my fav fail-example, Fruits Basket. All of these mentioned here sucked (imo of course), though Fruits Basket manga is one of my favourites so it’s sad it got such a bad anime adaptation. : <

I’ll be comparing Umineko to Higurashi here, since they’re both originally made by Ryukishi07, and propably because of Higurashi, Studio Deen thought it would be great to make anime adaptation of another Ryukishi07’s series! Of course there’s Ookami kakushi too, but it’s made by another studio and btw it seems to be having pretty low score on mal X”D

Why didn’t I like Higurashi? Characters were something I hated. I didn’t like any of them. Annoying, and some a bit less-annoying ones, but still all of them were annoying.  For Umineko, this partly applies, those characters I didn’t find annoying I pretty much didn’t think anything special about.

Then there’s the art & animation. I didn’t like Higurashis art (I even watched some random Higu AMV as a reminder and now I truly remember why I didn’t like the art..), Uminekos art was not anything special, but not the worst and tbh I didn’t think much about it either. But the animation.. Here comes also why I don’t like Studio Deen. Sorry, but Uminekos animation was pretty ugly at some parts. Derping faces, perspectives wtf?? and please, just please, don’t leave out some details no, it looks just ugly and chep no please.. Higurashi didn’t do much better.

And then, story.. For Higurashi.. Do I even need to say..? Everyone goes crazy and we see blood yay. No, blood doesn’t make it interesting. For Umineko, I didn’t like about the idea of “witch” but what can I do. It would have been more interesting with someone in the house really being the killer, like in that (not anime) TV series Harper’s Island. That one was actually pretty hooking. Umineko could have done the same, the idea of the witches didn’t really make me excited, but it wasn’t as annoying as Higurashi. It was just a bit unclear, tbh I’m not sure if I really got what happened there..

Also, I have to add.. The ending wtf? Really? Really..?? It was like there should be one episode more or something.. Maybe they’ll make more.. Or something.. Dunno..

Okay so. Pretty much for same reasons as Higurashi, Umineko didn’t apply for me. Also it annoyed me how some characters acted like.. There was no real reason for how they acted, like Marias mom hitting her? Why.. I never got it.. Also, Maria’s “Uuu uu!” reminded me too much of this.

Maybe Deen put all the effort on voice actors, since there were some good names. Also actually ones I like. I didn’t concentrate much to the ost so I won’t be saying anything about it. Neither the opening or ending were for me.

So yeah.. With MAL scoring I gave 5 which is average, better though what I have given to Higurashi..! I slightly liked this better, but only really slightly. Thanks though for banana-chan and anon (if you’re not the same person…??!) for recommending, I like getting recommendations, so please don’t ever think I would get mad at you..! (I also hope nobody will get mad at me for this, but haters gonna hate :”D)
